POE Consumption vs. Plug in Power Supplies

There has been a noticeable difference in temperatures on IR MPIX cameras while using POE (Power over Ethernet) power connections vs. plug in type power connections.

Depending on the scenario of the installation (Length of cable and outside temperatures) you may notice that IR cameras using POE power connections will have a higher temperature when IR has been activated for long periods of time. This is normal due to the design of most POE switches and IP cameras. We discussed the report with the manufacturer of the POE switch and they confirmed and stated that the power supply design of POE switches do tend to consume more on most scenarios.
In this report you can see that measurements taken from an amp meter shows higher Watt consumptions using POE.

Measurements from Standard POE switch: 0.12 Amp/ 115V/ 13.80 Watts
Measurements from Same POE switch with 1 IP Camera: 0.19 Amp 115V 21.85 Watts
Measurements from 12VDC Power Supply: 0.08 Amp/ 115V/ 9.20 Watts
Measurements from basic 12VDC Power Supply with same IP Camera: 0.12 Amp/ 115V/ 13.80 Watts

Below are the final mathematical calculations of this scenario:
Consumption of 1 IP Camera on POE switch: .07 Amps (0.19-0.12) 115 V/ 8.05 Watts
Consumption of 1 IP Camera on 12VDC Power Supply: .04 Amps (0.12-0.08)/ 115V/ 4.6 Watts

Please use measurements as a comparison because IP cameras and Plug-in power supplies may vary by brand and model.
